We were also asked in the first few days to bring in 10 objects of significance to ourselves as illustrators. We talked through what we had all brought in in small groups. My objects were:
-The incredible book eating boy by Oliver Jeffers as I love this book. Some of the images in it are really lovely. I like how he incorporates letraset into his images and also how he uses book covers in it…there is a black ‘board of education’ book as a blackboard for example. I also like how he combines pencilled writing, book pages and his characters. I just really like this book!
-A pocket watch as I love the pattern on the sides and the cogs inside are really complex and detailed. I love to draw anything with detail in.
-A photo of 2 old men out of a newspaper as I love to draw old people.
-A letter and examples of work from my foundation tutor as she tought me a lot and I see her as a source of inspiration. I really look up to her and have a lot of respect for her so this letter is special to me.
- The science of sleep DVD as I’m a fan of Michel Gondry films. I also like the animation scenes in the film. There are some really nice scenes with cardboard cities and a TV studio. The film also features the work of Lauri Faggioni’s who I also really like. She makes hand made sewn objects and animals that become animated in the film. Its done really well.
-A small zine I got from rough trade called garden party. There are some black and white images combined with floral prints, labels, gold patterns, tracing paper.
-2 found images I like.
-A small zine type leaflet from Burger King I found last summer. It reminds me a bit of Oliver Jeffers work, its got some lovely typography in it.
-A bag from London Fashion Week with an image for Mulberry by Julie Verhoeven on it with a label to match. I love her work. The combination of marks and the colours she uses.
(Sorry the image isn’t very good.)
